There is a secret that recently came to light regarding a certain Internet video expert in Orange County (The OC). Not one to gossip, I think this is important, so let me tell you a bit more.
The secret is this. I am the one that has flipped out. To clarify, I have “flipped” over the new Flip camcorder! Sorry, no salacious tidbits here.. just a bit of wordplay.
😉
Anyway, about 5 months ago I started researching video camcorders (for shooting live internet video) and actually bought several thinking that all of them would be trouble free and easy to understand and use.
Even though I have a background as a photographer, I found out that it can be a real pain to get video on the Net, when IMHO, technology should allow anyone to become an internet video expert.
Some camcorders shoot one type of format, others shoot in another. You can buy HD (high definition) or non HD, but then you can have problems with the large size of the files as well as needing to learn some sort of conversion and or compression software.
Internet video expert or not, I wanted something that was easy to use and pretty much of a no brainer and could be used to shoot and create internet videos.
I ran across an article in the Wall Street Journal about something called the Flip camcorder. The WSJ loved the Flip, and the Flip has garnered a significant part of the camcorder market in spite of an almost toy like appearance. (more recent models look pretty cool tho)
Long story short, I have Flipped! Which translated, means I bought one. Excellent camcorder and the video quality is really pretty amazing, especially the way it picks up movement and light at night. (And no, I don’t get anything from Pure Digital, the manufacturer, although I think I should especially since that tag line about flipping will now follow me for the rest of my life )
I have been using the Flip for a number of months and will share some of the results and tips I have learned in future blog entries.
Bottom line
5/5 Orange County Internet Video Expert Oranges
If anything will help you become an Internet video expert, this is it! I do hope Pure Digital will consider a headphone input port in the future.
